Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation Theory is an efficient way of understanding the process of how people consume certain products, conduct ideas, or even initiate events throughout history. The theory begins with an innovator or initial idea. That idea will then attract "early adopters" who will ultimately begin the to spread the idea or buy the product. After the early adopters, the "early majority" comes in after the initial reviews have been "published" to then consume the product. Then comes the "late majority" who will do the same as the early majority but at a later date. Finally, the "laggards" come in to consume the product or idea well after it's establishment.

For example, the Apple AirPods have recently grabbed the attention of those who wish to go completely wireless. While the idea of this product is conventional and proves to serve its purpose, it does so at a price. You can pay $159 for the basic AirPods (Apple), $249 for the AirPods Pro (Apple), or $15 for a knock off that barely fits in your ear and does not have as good of sound quality but serves its purpose. The first version of the Apple AirPods came out in September of 2016 where the product was greeted by its early adopters. As time went on the early majority gained word of the product then the late majority and so on. Since the original wired headphones with lightning adapter is currently $19.99, I can imagine that the Innovation Theory of this product has a long lifespan before it reaches its laggards due to price.

I do not yet own a pair of AirPods due to the fact that I do not want to pay that amount of money when I have the wired headphone that do the same job. It also comes down to what I prefer to spend my money on materialistically. I would prefer to purchase two cute pairs of shoes for the same price as one set of wireless headphones, but that it just my preference. On the other hand, in the gym I often struggle with the wire getting in the way of my workout. With the wired headphones. your phone has to be within the distance of the wires length in order for it to be connected to the phone which means I needed to have an arm band. With that being said, there is a possibility that I invest in the AirPods in the near future which would make me a laggard.
